Airfare Hike – Some Fares Jump $2-$4 each-way

May 12 – 1 p.m. Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines hiked fares on the majority of their respective routes systems, from $2 to $4 each-way.

  • Delta: Hiked 1,000,000+ fares
  • Southwest: Hiked 40,000+ fares*

May 12 – 4 p.m. American Airlines raised over 370,000 fares, a partial-matching maneuver that likely includes overlapping routes with the other carriers.

*Note: The number of fares initially hiked by Southwest is similar to the number of fares the airline lowered just last month.

May 13: Southwest has now matched across the board, making the success of the hike seem more likely – but we’ll see what happens over the weekend.
