Alaska Airlines Creates Club 49 for Alaskan Fliers

Alaska Airlines has created a program with special benefits and airfares aimed at residents of Alaska who fly to, from or within the northern-most state of the union.

Club 49, announced Tuesday – which was also Alaska Day – is a way of saying thanks to Alaskans, said Alaska Airlines president Brad Tilden.

Club 49 has three main elements:

  1. Two free checked bags for any member flying to or from Alaska, beginning Nov. 1.
  2. Two 30 percent-off coupons for one-way, short-notice tickets that can be booked within four days of travel time. These coupons are intended for emergency use and can only be used for travel to, from and within Alaska.
  3. Special airfares offered every week to the lower 48 states.

While the airfare deals come with restrictions – i.e., seats are limited and may not be available on all flights or all days, blackout dates and limited travel days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday only) – it’s a nice move in the right direction for passengers.

So far, more than 100 Alaskans have signed up for the program and those living in the 49th state who want to sign up can do so here. For more information, check the FAQs.
