Sure, the Rockies are beautiful in the winter-and the skiing is fabulous-but you must not miss the mountains in the Spring and Summer.

Jackson, Wyoming is a delightful year-round spot with an eclectic mix of laid back celebrities and genuine cowboys. Enjoy the fun nightlife, not to mention the chic eateries that sit right next door friendly cafes featuring down-home cooking.

But it’s the dazzling scenery that brings people here, and keeps them coming back: Jackson is the gateway to the Grand Tetons, perhaps the most beautiful mountains in the West; and just down the road is venerable Yellowstone National Park-which could take a lifetime to fully explore.

This Memorial Day Weekend, Jackson offers white-water rafting, horseback riding and more, plus the town kicks off its “Old West Days” with rodeos, crafts, food and more.

Vail, Colorado is another Western favorite that’s not just for skiing; this resort town was made for hiking and biking-and it’s also for those who simply want to contemplate the rugged beauty of the Rockies-or enjoy some world class golf-or a little first class pampering. And Memorial Day Weekenders should definitely check out the “Blues Brews and BBQ Festival” at nearby Beaver Creek for great food and drink.

BEST WAY TO GET THERE:

There are two ways to get the Jackson-the Jackson, Wyoming airport (JAC) or you can fly into nearby Idaho Falls, Idaho airport (IDA) and enjoy a spectacular ride into Jackson.

To get to Vail this summer, fly into Denver International Airport (DEN) and head-west, of course.
