There will be both solemn and rousingly patriotic events throughout D.C. during Memorial Day Weekend, and there is truly something for all.
If you haven’t seen the mall and its monuments, this is the perfect time to pay your respects to the poignant statue of Abraham Lincoln and see the towering Washington Monument (which took 40 years to complete).
Among the special events will be a free concert Sunday, May 30 at 5pm on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol featuring the National Symphony Orchestra. On Monday, May 31 at 11am there will be the traditional wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery, and at 2pm, marching bands and more will converge on the corner of Constitution Avenue and 7th Street for the National Memorial Day Parade.
