    Visit Philadelphia

Philadelphia was home to many of the country’s founding fathers who fought for independence, but while the city is steeped in American history, it’s also an eclectic mix of diverse neighborhoods and modern attractions that draw visitors from all over the world.

Distinguished residents have included Benjamin Franklin – see his statue in Old City – or visit the homes of Edgar Allan Poe and Betsy Ross.

Philadelphia also features excellent art museums, popular music venues, and is one of America’s favorite sports towns (thanks to the Eagles, the Phillies, the Fliers and the 76ers)

Did you know? The word “philadelphia” is Greek for “brotherly love”.

    Flights to Philadelphia

Flying to Philadelphia is quite easy, and so is finding cheap flights to Philadelphia. More than 350,000 people fly out of Philly each week.

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL): This hub for US Airways has thousands of domestic flights each week and also provides service to Canada, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East.

    Attractions in Philadelphia

American history? Philly’s got it covered – along with art museums, 3-D extravaganzas and the nation’s oldest zoo. Sample a bit of everything.

Liberty Bell – See the 2,000 pound symbol of freedom, and examine x-rays of its crack. Then head for the “Liberty 360″ 3-D show in a new state-of-the-art theater for a fascinating journey into history. And don’t miss the National Constitution Center – dedicated to “We the People”.

Philadelphia Museum of Art – Yes, these are the steps Stallone jogged up in the original “Rocky” movie, but do go inside; its world-class collection includes art from the Renaissance, American masters, Impressionists and so much more.

The Philadelphia Zoo – This was the country’s first zoo (chartered in 1859), and features elephants, tree kangaroos plus a Primate Reserve, Carnivore Kingdom, and Rare Animal Conservation Center.

    Shopping and Restaurants in Philadelphia

Dining: Yes, you can find French cuisine here, along with Peruvian, Japanese, down-home BBQ and delightful neighborhood Italian joints. Oh, yes, there’s also a sandwich called the “Philadelphia cheesesteak” that you simply have to try.

Shopping: This city can be a shoppers’ paradise, featuring everything from mega-malls and premium outlets to tiny boutiques in charming neighborhoods and gourmet food emporiums. See VisitPhilly.com to arrange a personal shopping tour.

    Smart Tip

Check out Old Philadelphia for the lively nightlife featuring dance clubs and trendy drinking establishments plus a smattering of “dive bars” with great pub-grub.
