Why Spirit’s New Non-Stop Routes May Not Work for All Travelers

Scrappy Spirit Airlines, the self-styled “ultra-low cost carrier” has once again expanded service with new routes and cities. However, if you’re new to Spirit, please see the caution below.

Spirit: Crazy Little Airline that Breaks All Rules

    New Houston-Orlando and Denver-Detroit Routes

The following service is scheduled to begin Feb. 14.

    • Two daily non-stop flights between Houston and Orlando
    • Two daily non-stop flights between Denver and Detroit*

*Service will begin with flights on Thursday through Monday – daily service kicks in March 1.

Spirit Carry-on Fees – As High as $100 per Bag

Service to Myrtle Beach Begins Early

Spirit has also announced that it will begin its seasonal service to and from the South Carolina resort town of Myrtle Beach earlier than previously scheduled, beginning Feb. 14/15 from cities including Chicago, Detroit, Latrobe/Pittsburgh and Niagara Falls. Service from Charleston, West Virginia begins March 2.

Spirit to Dying Vet: No Refunds

For Those Who’ve Never Flown Spirit

If the cheapest airfare is all that matters to you, you may love flying on Spirit – and many do. However, this airline proudly squeezes pennies until they scream, charging fees for amenities most of us take for granted such as free carry-on bags and even a soda or a drink of water. The airline in turn says such fees, which are indeed optional, allow them to offer what it calls “insanely low fares.” If you do fly Spirit, expect to pay for any extras – and sometimes you will pay dearly. Be sure to check out the carrier’s numerous fees carefully before you book your flight.
