Top U.S. and Worldwide Destinations

We won’t keep you in suspense: Istanbul is the number one destination in the world, according to TripAdvisor’s annual Travelers’ Choice list where rankings are determined by the quantity and quality of reviews for attractions, hotels and restaurants.

  • All Cities – Winners and Losers

The Turkish city can boast one of the biggest popularity increases over 2013’s listing, moving up elevens places. Second-place finisher Rome gained slightly while number three city London stayed precisely where it had been. No U.S. cities made the top 10 but New York City ranked number 12. Top 10 International Destinations

Biggest Winners: Hanoi didn’t even make last year’s list, yet still cracked the top 10. Other cities that improved their rankings by more than ten places include Beijing, Marrakech, Shanghai and Siem Reap.

Biggest Losers: San Francisco lost the most ground, dropping 18 places to wind up in 25th place. Other double-digit losses were seen by New York (12), Barcelona (15) and Sydney (22).

  • U.S. Cities – Winners and Losers

No surprise to find the Big Apple at the top of the heap, same as last year. Number two Chicago and number three San Francisco traded places with each other from last year’s list.

3. San Francisco 8. Seattle
4. Las Vegas 9. Washington, D.C.
5. New Orleans 10. Orlando


Biggest Winners: California, the only state with multiple cities in the top 10 and one of those – San Diego – is making its list debut. Also doing well is Houston (12), up 13 places over last year.

Biggest Losers: Boston fell from 7 to 14 while Miami  dropped 13 spots to number 25.
