This is the first in a series of tips for all those planning vacations. You might save some money. You might save a lot of money.
Summer Travel Tip: Compare Fares
We’re quite bullish on this; yes, we have an airfare search/comparison site and we’d be delighted if you shopped here but even if you don’t, you’ve got to compare prices and here’s why:
- No single airline always has the best deal.
Don’t believe it? Maybe you think Southwest always has the best price. Southwest has great prices, but they are not always the cheapest.
Example: Round-trip fare for Los Angeles to Dayton in July*.
- Southwest: $498
- Another airline: $418
Maybe you think Spirit always has the best price. Spirit has great prices, but they are not always the cheapest.
Example: Round-trip fare for Denver to Las Vegas in July*.
- Spirit: $157
- Another airline: $145
Do yourself a favor. Always compare airfares. As airfare analyst and FareCompare CEO Rick Seaney always says, “Why pay a penny more than you have to?”
*These prices were found April 21, 2015 but please note that airfares can and do change without warning.
