Southwest has announced it will begin non-stop service between Boston and Nashville starting Aug. 12, enhancing Boston’s reputation as one of the cheapest airfare destinations for summer or anytime.

    Boston/Nashville Airfare Sale $139 One-Way

To celebrate the new route (and let people know of its existence), Southwest has launched a short-lived airfare sale – valid through today only (May 11) – for $139 one-way between the cities. These relatively cheap deals are good for travel throughout the fall, and the Deals Blog has all the details on this new Southwest airfare sale.

    Competition for American, Delta

Currently, flyers to and from Boston/Nashville can find service from American Airlines and Delta, but neither offers non-stops. Of course, airlines can and do change routes and add or subtract cities at any time (and American of late is a prime example of this), and more non-stop competition could crop up at any time depending on the popularity of the route.

Boston – One of Summer’s Travel Bargains

Airfare analyst Rick Seaney is not surprised at the ongoing interest in the Boston market – he included the city’s Logan International as one of his Six Cheapest Destinations for Summer and pointed to its rich line-up of low-cost carriers. Besides Southwest, Boston is currently served by AirTran, Frontier, JetBlue, Spirit, Sun Country and Virgin America plus all legacy carriers and a host of international airlines.
