Southwest Airlines Offers Free Holiday Photos, Chance to Win Free Flights

Starting Dec. 13, Southwest Airlines again partners with Windows to bring back its popular free holiday photo kiosks to 21 airports across the country (see list below).

Passengers will find these kiosks in Southwest gate areas where they can have a photo taken with Santa or against another holiday backdrop. The picture can then be retrieved online, or subjects can walk away with a hard copy in hand.

Traveling during the holidays? Don’t make any of these 4 big mistakes!

Free Photos and Chance at Free Travel for a Year

No doubt Southwest sees this as a cheery publicity stunt, while Microsoft hopes to entice more people into trying Windows Live photo editing tools, but many passengers seem to like it.

However, considering today’s excruciating travel experience, with its long lines and sometimes torturous scenes at security, do most flyers look “good” enough for a photo portrait session? Or will they wind up with images that might be candidates for AwkwardFamilyPhotos.com?

What is the enhanced pat-down at security really like? Watch this quick video.

For those with doubts, Southwest is offering an additional lure this year: a sweepstakes with the grand prize of a year’s worth of travel on the low cost carrier – and a “year’s worth” works out to 24 round-trip tickets for use in 2012 with no blackout dates.

For those who will be flying during the holidays on Southwest or any other airline, the time to buy tickets is now, as prices keep creeping up.

Travelers can avail themselves of free photos in the following airports:

    • Austin
    • Boston
    • Chicago
    • Dallas
    • Denver
    • Detroit
    • Fort Lauderdale
