Ski Trips – Deals and Destinations

If you’re sick of snow, you probably aren’t a skier or a snowboarder. If you are, check out these destinations for great mountains and cheaper airfare.

Two Cheapest Ski Destinations

Both cities offer a wide range of excellent skiing at iconic mountain resorts.

Boston: The gateway to venerable New England ski resorts like Stratton and Stowe (Vermont) and Bretton Woods and Waterville Valley (New Hampshire).

  • Alternative airports: Hartford is a little further away in the middle of Connecticut while Vermont’s Burlington is right in the thick of things but both are generally more expensive than Boston. However, you won’t know until you compare prices from your town.

Denver: Aspen, Vail, Breckenridge – a familiar list that goes on and on. Catch a shuttle from the airport – a trip that ranges from two hours (Vail) to nearly four hours (Aspen) but you will be distracted by pretty scenery and the world class slopes are worth it.

  • Alternative airport: Flying into Aspen is generally much more expensive than Denver, but it does offer service from American, Delta and United (though some of these flights are seasonal).

New Mexico and Utah

Great cities with great resorts that are easy to get to.

Albuquerque: We’ve seen a number of good deals to this New Mexico town in recent months from American, JetBlue and Southwest. Look for great skiing at Angel Fire or in nearby Santa Fe, a beautiful city that’s just an hour’s drive away.

Salt Lake City: Utah boasts it has the greatest snow on earth and while it is terrific, what’s even better is the sheer number of renowned resorts less than an hour’s drive from the airport. These include Alta, Brighton, Solitude and Snowbird.

Europe – Switzerland

Europe is home to amazing skiing – see more here – but this is one of its cheaper destinations.

Zurich: This Swiss city has been a relative deal for the past few years and is your jumping off point for celebrated resorts like Davos and St. Moritz.
