    First, they picketed at the Dallas-Ft. Worth airport. Today, some American Airlines employees are expected to descend on Miami International with protest signs and slogans.

    13,000 American Employees to be Axed

    Protests over Expected Firings

    The actions are tied to the bankrupt carrier’s announcement earlier this year that it plans to cut about 13,000 employees in an effort to streamline operations and start making money again.

    At the DFW protest – held on Valentine’s Day – flight attendants and ground workers appeared resigned about changing the company’s course – and they reportedly attracted little attention from passengers who went about the business of catching flights without interruption.

    Pilots Union Takes Action Against American

    However, the pilots’ union is still in there slugging away at American’s efforts to come to a labor agreement with them. As Bloomberg reports, they are “seeking to block the airline from rejecting a labor agreement and forcing new employment terms on the union.”

    U.S. Pilots Leaving for Chinese Airlines?

    Meanwhile, a China job fair in Miami last week apparently attracted a fair number of U.S. pilots including American officers because of numerous Chinese airlines seeking to expand. Reportedly 70 U.S. pilots were offered jobs on the spot. One current American pilot was quoted as saying he could just about double his salary by moving to China.
