Ryanair’s Latest Publicity Stunt: Porn on Planes

The CEO of the low-cost European carrier Ryanair is known for “pushing the limits,” and Michael O’Leary’s latest idea is no exception.

He wants to put porn on his planes.

How bad are Ryanair’s baggage fees? Pretty bad!

    Porn for Phones and Tablets

Not for seatback screens – he is talking about making such content available as a download through an inflight app for tablets and smart phones. However, those interested in such movies shouldn’t expect to see X-rated scenes anytime soon. If ever. Ryanair is known for floating trial balloons of outlandish ideas that wind up going nowhere. A sampling:

    Recent Ryanair Publicity Stunts

Adults-only flights: This one garnered a lot of publicity when first broached earlier this year. People are tired of screaming kids on planes. However, several people noted an important detail about the press release: it was dated April 1.

Pay toilets: This too received a lot of publicity, and Ryanair even went so far as to say they were consulting with Boeing about making this a reality. However, in the nearly three years since this idea was floated, Ryanair planes still have the standard free restrooms.

Standing-room-only seats: This idea drew a lot of laughs, until the manufacturers of the SkyRider seats began displaying their incredibly cramped, 23-inch seat pitch benches (normal coach seats have about a 30-inch seat pitch).

Ryanair likes to talk big. Fortunately for its passengers, it usually amounts to nothing.
