News for American, Delta, Alaska and Virgin Atlantic Flyers

Take a look at these changes – it might affect your flights or future plans, including ideas you may have about visiting certain airport VIP lounges.

5 great reasons to get off the couch

The airline is adding more flights to Seattle, which is becoming an increasingly cheap destination, with non-stop service from Baltimore and Albuquerque beginning in September.

According to CNBC, the American Express Platinum credit card will no longer give cardholders free access to American Airlines and US Airways lounges. However, it does provide plenty of other benefits including some freebies (and access to Delta lounges). Still, this might be a good time to review the perks and see if the $450 annual fee card is right for you.

Delta and Virgin Atlantic

Delta had reportedly planned to offer year-round service from Chicago to London Heathrow but those plans have been scrapped in favor (it seems) of focusing more attention on its codeshare alliance with Virgin Atlantic to try and wrest lucrative business travel between New York and Heathrow from American. Here’s how it stands at the moment, per Reuters:

  • Delta: 3 daily non-stops, JFK-Heathrow, increasing to 9 with codeshare partner Virgin Atlantic
  • American: 17 daily non-stops with codeshare partner British Airways

Remember, if saving money is your bottom line, always compare airfare prices. As travel analyst Rick Seaney points out, “No single airline always has the cheapest price.” If you don’t compare, you may spend too much.
