Top 10 Most Popular Summer Destinations
With the approach of summer, new destination lists keep cropping up, and the same cities keep surfacing as well.

Top Summer Destinations of 2012
The latest is Orbitiz’ Top Destinations for Summer survey and Las Vegas led that list, just as it did on Priceline’s list of top Memorial Day go-to cities [see both lists, below]. Orbitz ranked New York as the second most popular summer destination followed by Orlando, Los Angeles and Seattle.
The Six Cheapest Destinations for Summer
Cheapest Cities for Summer
Orlando, home to Disney and Harry Potter attractions did not make the Memorial Day list, possibly because a holiday weekend doesn’t allow enough time. However, the Orbitz list does include several of air travel analyst Rick Seaney’s cheapest destinations for summer such as Orlando, Los Angeles, Boston and Denver. The lone international destination was Cancun in the number 10 spot.
Guilt over Pets and Kids
The Orbitz destination list survey included additional questions such as, should Americans get more vacation? No surprise here: 44 percent believe the government should mandate four weeks off a year. However, a question about traveling without loved ones was more revealing:
- 30% feel guilty about traveling and leaving their children behind
- 33% feel guilty about traveling and leaving their pets behind
