If Your Candidate Loses – Will You Fly Away?

Today is Election Day in the U.S. and barring unforeseen developments, one candidate will win and one will lose.

Airline Slogans vs. Political Slogans

Perfect Timing for Trip

In the past, certain high-profile voters threatened to leave the country if their choice lost (although onetime-American Airlines celebrity provocateur Alec Baldwin claims he never said that). If your candidate loses, do you want to get away? If so, the timing couldn’t be better.

Airline Dead Zones, Airline Sales

Traditionally, early November and the first couple of weeks of December are considered airline dead zones, meaning few wish to fly during these pre-holiday periods. The result: cheap airfare – and this is underscored by all the low prices listed on airfare deals blogs. Plus, while most airlines advertise sales that expire anywhere from one to three days, there are several unusually long sales now underway from airlines like American, JetBlue, Southwest, Virgin America and more. The current deals include airfares for as little as $49 each-way.

JetBlue Election Deal

Last month, JetBlue advertised an “election protection” contest for those who wished to leave the country if their candidate lost. The winner, who will be named sometime after the results are in, gets a free ticket out of the country to one of the carrier’s 20-plus international destinations. And just in case the contest winner decides to give the winning candidate another chance, the ticket also includes a return trip home.
