Hurricane Watch in Effect for Northern Gulf Coast

At the moment, tropical storm Karen is centered just above Cancun but is heading north and there is a hurricane watch in effect for the following areas:

  • Hurricane Watch: From Grand Isle, Louisiana, eastward to Indian Pass, Florida

Current estimates indicate Karen could make landfall in 48 hours, but it must be stressed that storm paths can and do change. However, if you’ll be traveling in the near future to/from or through this region, check with your airline. Carriers often waive change fees in advance of bad weather.

Note: The hurricane watch does not include the city of New Orleans but that area does have a tropical storm watch in effect.

Here is the projected path of Karen as of Oct. 3 at 9:30 a.m. eastern time:

NOTE: Go to National Hurricane Center for updates. Don’t bother trying to access NOAA.gov – it is not available (for now) due to the government shutdown, but Weather.gov and the Hurricane Center have all the breaking storm news.
