The 2012 Olympic Games in London may have wrapped up less than 12 hour ago – and that’s including the time difference – but we are only 18 months from the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
The games will run from Feb. 7-23, 2014, in Sochi, Russia, which is about 1,000 miles south of Moscow. Sochi is located in west Russia and sits on the Black Sea. Currently under construction, the Olympic Park will feature new venues and transportation areas in Sochi, as well as new venues in the nearby town of Krasnaya Polyana, where other events will be held. Over the course of the two weeks, 98 events will take place in 15 sports.
Flights to Sochi
There are two major airports in the area:
Sochi International Airport is located closest to the Olympic Park area, on the coast of the Black Sea. The airport is currently undergoing renovations to handle the Olympic traffic.
Another option is the Krasnodar International Airport, located in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, about 200 miles from Sochi.
For the most part, expect any flight you take to be a non-direct flight that has multiple layovers with an almost-guaranteed stop in Moscow, Russia.
