Driving to/from the Airport: Worst Traffic-Congested Cities

TomTom, provider of real-time traffic information, has released its annual report on worst traffic-congested cities in North and South America. The news is not good for California and Brazil which means it’s not good for those who have to drive to and from the airport in many of these cities.

Just what World Cup fans need, right? Another travel headache. But there’s some good news too: Some cities are actually improving.

Best and Worst Cities for Traffic

Most Congested (ranked from worst to less worse):

  1. Rio de Janeiro
  2. Mexico City
  3. Sao Paulo
  4. Los Angeles
  5. Vancouver
  6. San Francisco
  7. Honolulu
  8. Seattle
  9. Toronto
  10. San Jose, Calif.

Most improved cities: Mexico City, Honolulu and New Orleans (#17) In case you were wondering: New York ranked 11, Chicago 19, and Dallas 39.

Least Congested (ranked from best to not so bad):

  1. Richmond
  2. Birmingham
  3. Milwaukee
  4. St. Louis
  5. Raleigh
  6. Phoenix
  7. Cincinnati
  8. Louisville
  9. Detroit
  10. Rochester

Tip: Always leave yourself plenty of time to get to the airport. Even if you don’t have much traffic, you never know what the lines at security will be like.
