Delta Soars in Latest Government Airline Statistics

Delta Air Lines did very well in a variety of performance categories, according to the latest U.S. government airline statistics for the month of September.

Latest Airline Statistics

U.S. airlines proved to be generally punctual, posting an on-time arrival rate of 86.5% in September which was up from 81.1% in September 2014 and also an improvement over August’s on-time rate of 80.3%.

  3. Southwest Airlines

Lowest On-Time Arrival Rates 

  1. Spirit Airlines (76.7%)
  2. JetBlue Airways
  3. Hawaiian Airlines

Highest Rates of Canceled Flights  

  1. Envoy Air (1.7%)
  2. SkyWest Airlines
  3. Spirit Airlines

Lowest Rates of Canceled Flights

  1. Delta Air Lines (0.0%)
  2. Alaska Airlines
  3. Virgin America

Fewest Lost Bags

The overall rate for September was 2.46 reports of baggage problems (“mishandled bags”) per 1,000 passengers.

Consumer Complaints

Consumer complaints were up for the month with 1,857 received compared to 1,158 for September 2014.

Expressjet, Alaska and Southwest had the fewest complaints while Spirit had the most. Delta did pretty well here, too, coming in at number five out of 13 airlines.

Meanwhile, FareCompare asked Delta how come they did so well, and airline spokesman Michael Thomas told us it’s  all about their people. “Delta’s unparalleled operational performance is a product of the craft, expertise and hard work of our 80,000 stellar employees,” he said.
