Beginning Friday, Dec. 20, the TSA officially extends TSA PreCheck – its expedited airport screening program – to all U.S. Armed Forces service members, including those serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Reserves and National Guard.
PreCheck Available in 100 Airports
This means military traveling through 100 participating U.S. airports – and you can see the full list here – will be able to keep shoes or boots on, laptops in cases, and those zip bags of toiletries can stay in carry-on bags.
What Military Must Do
In order to get these security perks, the military service member must enter his or her correct Department of Defense identification number in their flight reservation.
One caveat: No one, military or civilian, is ever guaranteed the faster screening procedures. According to the press release, “The TSA will always incorporate random and unpredictable security measures throughout the airport.”
