American Airlines: What’s New

Yes, American Airlines and its merger partner US Airways are still not fully integrated but they’re getting there; in the meantime, a few changes to report (and some fun video to look at, below).

New Tokyo Route?

American has applied to begin daily non-stop service between Los Angeles and Tokyo’s Haneda airport, but this requires approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation. We’ll update when more information is available.

Deal for Pilots

The union for Americans pilots has approved the airline’s final offer which calls for a 23 percent wage hike – if agreed to by its members later this month. Although it sounds like a sweet deal, Fortune reports that the union was not happy that “management rejected a proposal to give pilots pay for each calendar day they spend away from home, even if they’re in a hotel waiting for an assignment.” Fortune was told a similar work rule exists for Delta and United pilots.

Magazine Changes

Print may be (sadly) dying off in much of the world but not in American’s airplanes. The carrier says it has redesigned its onboard publication American Way and added digital content. This month’s cover features Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters. We’re not certain why, although the band’s Learn to Fly music video is priceless.
