America is the land of competition, and each of the U.S. states and territories brings a unique personality and culture to the mix. For example: is America's best beach in Coronado, California; Manele Bay, Hawaii (via Honolulu); Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Nantucket, Massachusetts; or Clearwater Beach, Florida? It depends on who you ask!
If you're really serious about experiencing this country, you'll find America's best barbecue in Austin, Texas. Or will you find it in Kansas City, Kansas? How about Memphis, Tennessee or Chapel Hill, North Carolina? And speaking of American institutions: Should you see the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.; San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge; New York's Statue of Liberty; St. Louis' Gateway Arch; or Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota?
America boasts 58 national parks, each uniquely beautiful. You have a tough decision ahead of you choosing between Arizona's Grand Canyon, Wyoming's Yellowstone National Park, California's Redwood National Park, Alaska's Denali National Park and Maine's spectacular Acadia National Park.
If you're looking for true Americana, your choice is clear: road trip. Will you drive the soothing ocean view and coastal mountains Pacific Highway Route 1, or the truly amazing Beartooth Highway in Montana/Wyoming? How about the Sun Road in Montana through Glacier National Park, or the technically challenging Tail of the Dragon in Tennessee/North Carolina? Or will you tour the Main Street of America itself: U.S. Route 66?

Find a great time to visit
Typically, the peak time for shopping for 4th of July flights is around the second week of June. If you're looking for cheap flights to the Detroit Fireworks, I'd start shopping about a month before that time! If you're needing a better flight deal, try flying on Saturday, one of the cheaper days of the week to fly. Also check out FareCompare’s Deals Blog for hand picked 4th of July specials!

Taste of Chicago
The key to beating high airfares in the middle of summer is to book at the right time. Generally, US travelers should shop on Tuesdays at 3pm EST between 3-1 months ahead of the Taste of Chicago date. International travelers should shop between 5-3 months ahead of the festival date. Searching for Tuesday or Wednesday departures is a great midweek tactic to get low fares! At the Taste, admission is free, but remember that food and drink tickets are sold throughout the festival. A strip of 12 tickets costs $8.50.

International Climber's Festival
You won't be able to find flights directly to Lander, where the Climber's Festival is located. However, a great option is to fly to Salt Lake City and then drive to Lander. Closer alternatives are Casper, Rock Springs or Jackson Hole. There is even shuttle service to Lander once or twice per week from Casper and Rock Springs! If you can't take advantage of the shuttle service, you could consider renting a car with friends to cut the costs. When comparing airfares from multiple carriers, be sure to check rates from United and Frontier Airlines if they fly out of your home airport. For those opting for the road trip, travel on I-80 east from Salt Lake City headed to Rock Springs, Wyoming. Then head north on US Highway 191 to Farson and northeast on Wyoming Highway 28 into Lander.
