Bigger Airports Usually Mean Cheaper Flights

Bigger isn’t always better, but often it pays to fly out of the largest airport near you (even if you have to drive an hour or two).
Case in point: Southern California’s LAX vs. Burbank.
I did a quick search on FareCompare’s deal finder – for cheap, cross-country flights in September – and came up with the following:
Los Angeles to NY, $199 roundtrip
Both are great deals, but you clearly save more by flying out of the larger LAX. On the other hand, San Fernando Valley residents can rejoice because they still get a good deal, while avoiding the hassle of the 405. Been there!
