Who Knew So Many Celebrities Flew Southwest Airlines?

Southwest has a lot of fans and with good reason; it flies almost everywhere in the U.S. (and will fly to even more places, once its merger/acquisition with AirTran is complete), plus it’s a discount airline. Face it, it’s cheap. So what was a celebrity like “L-Word” actress Leisha Hailey doing on Southwest in the first place? Surely she didn’t fly them with the intent of getting into a brouhaha that began with a kiss and ended with the boot.

    Why Celebrities Fly Southwest

In the wake of that so-called “kissing incident”, several celebrities jumped on the “boycott Southwest” bandwagon, including Kirstie Alley who tweeted, “wont be flying you – as if I ever did”.  Turns out, plenty celebrities do. We can only guess why – but presumably, the airline gets them where they need to go and saves them some money, too.

    Celebrity “Incidents” on Southwest

We know some of the names of these celebrities because they run into problems and love to tweet about them. Like movie director Kevin Smith, who went on a Twitter rampage last year when Southwest told him he needed two seats (this is called, FWF: flying while fat) and since there wasn’t a second seat, he got the boot.

This year, it was Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong’s turn to feel the foot on his low riding-panted posterior; he was ejected apparently because his pants hung  down too far (his response to the flight attendant who told him to pull up his pants: “Don’t you have better things to do than worry about that?”).

Noted minor reality show star Scott Disick of Kardashian “fame” allegedly had some sort of minor snafu with fellow flyers when he boarded a Southwest flight this summer, but the airline had no problem with him whatsoever and so he stayed on the plane.

    Big Stars on Southwest

Perhaps you are thinking, these are what you call celebrities? Well, they are by today’s definition. But for more star power on Southwest, let’s check in with TMZ (and say what you will, but that Harvey knows his celebrities); the gossip site’s list of Southwest flyers includes (drumroll): Brad Pitt, Lady Gaga, Venus Williams, Justin Timberlake and lots more. It just goes to show that the richest, most beautiful and most fabulously famous amongst us – well, they like to save a buck, too.

    Question for Readers!

Ever seen a celebrity on your plane? Did the celebrity behave? Did you?
